Car Camping in the Alabama Hills

Recently I wanted to spend some time amidst the towering mountains, but without hiking/skiing/or climbing into the mountains. I was reminded that a trip to the mountains and to recharge does not always have to mean a big impressive trip, but that it can be whatever you want or need it to be at the time. If you are short on time or energy, nursing an injury, or just not wanting to put the pressure of a big trip into the mountains and all the planning and risk assessment that requires, then a car camping trip to somewhere like the Alabama Hills may be just what you need! I found a designated overnight camping spot, pulled in, set up my Luno air mattress designed specifically to fit the backseat of my subaru crosstrek, and then went for a bike ride on the dirt roads until the sun went down. Next, I did a basic sponge bath, got into my cozy wool base layers and put on my down outer layers, ate a simple dinner, and cozied up in my subaru for the evening to finish a book I had been meaning to read for a while. It was as quiet as could be, the stars were out in force, and I successfully finished a book with a quieter mind than when I started. Sometimes removing ourselves from cell service and wifi and finding a quiet place nestled amidst magestic mountains is just what we need! I hope this post inspires you to go on your next adventure into or amidst the Sierras!
